It's from Someone Unknown
You don’t recognize the sender, phone number, or email address.
It's Unexpected
A message, request, or even a check comes out of nowhere and doesn’t match what you’re expecting.

How to Protect Yourself:
-
Don't trust Caller ID alone.
-
Hang up and call the organization back using a number from their official website.
-
Be cautious with links and attachments. Always double check before you click.

Romance Scams
What is It?
Romance scams occur when someone builds an online relationship to gain your trust, and eventually your money. Scammers often claim they’re deployed, traveling, or unable to meet in person. They will start to ask you to send money to help them pay for different things like bills.
How to Protect Yourself:
-
Be wary of fast-moving online relationships.
-
Never send money to someone you haven’t met.
-
Watch for excuses about why they can’t video chat or meet.
What to Do If It Happens.
Stop all communication, document any messages, and report the account to the platform. Contact us if you made a payment or sent funds.

No legitimate company will demand crypto as the only payment method.

Fraud Tips
-
Switching to eStatements is an easy way to boost account security. Digital statements remove the risk of paper mail being lost or stolen and keep your information protected behind your secure online banking login.
-
Create passwords that are at least 8 characters long and include a mix of numbers, uppercase and lowercase letters, and special characters. Longer passwords offer even stronger protection. Avoid reusing the same password across websites, especially for online banking and other financial accounts.
-
Don’t use Online or Mobile Banking on open Wi-Fi networks as they make it easier for your information to be intercepted. Use your cellular connection instead, and consider adding a trusted personal VPN for an extra layer of protection. -
Make it a habit to check your credit report regularly. You can access your reports from all three major credit bureaus for free once a year at AnnualCreditReport.com. -
Register your phone number with the National Do Not Call Registry to reduce unsolicited calls and lower your risk of falling for phone-based scams. -
If someone claiming to be from your bank calls about an account issue, tell them you need to hang up and call them back. Do not call back the number they used. Instead, contact your financial institution directly using the phone number on their official website.
