2021 Community Impact Report

$54,000 in Community Donations

24 Non-Profits Supported

Every year, Red Canoe employees donate their time and their money to a variety of community causes. In 2021, we supported a total of 24 local charities in each of our branch markets – from the Auburn Valley Humane Society up near our Lake Tapps branch in northern Washington down to the Family Tree Relief Nursery in Albany, Oregon. We partner with food banks – like the Storehouse in Covington – and with youth outreach organizations like the YMCA in Puyallup.

Red Canoe gives employees 8 hours of volunteer time to make a difference in their communities.

Our employees also volunteer at community events like the United Way Day of Caring, shred day events, DECA competitions, community clean up days, school financial reality fairs, and more each year!

$29,000 in School Supplies Donations Matched

$28,000 in Member Scholarships

Red Canoe Credit Union supports access to education for local children. One of the ways we do this is through our annual Fill The Canoe Back to School Drive. In our branch communities, we partner with local charities to collect and distribute school supplies to students in need.

More than 232,000 lbs of school supply donations matched since 2007.

During the pandemic, we expanded Fill the Canoe to match both physical school supply donations and online cash donations (dollar-for-dollar and pound-for-pound). In 2022, Red Canoe matched $29,000 in supplies and cash donations from our branch communities.

We also support student members pursuing higher education through our scholarship program, which awards seven $4,000 scholarships to student members at various stages in their education.

40 Hours of Financial Education

40 Financial Literacy Topics Online

We believe that one of the best ways to support our community is through easily accessible financial education programs. That’s why we offer It’s A Money Thing – a program filled with fun and useful financial info presented in bite-size pieces that are easy to understand! Our Community Engagement Team goes into high schools and local businesses to teach financial literacy concepts and help students and community members make the most of their financial journey.

“Our students have been enjoying the Red Canoe videos in my personal finance class. They relate perfectly and are actually fun to watch – so thank you again for sharing!”
