The Red Canoe scholarships were created in the memory of Wally C. Ohlfs, the founding
manager of Red Canoe (formerly Weyerhaeuser Employees’ Credit Union). After initiating
the organization of the credit union while working for Weyerhaeuser Company, Wally
served as the credit union manager from its inception in 1937 until 1975 and was
a tireless advocate for the credit union philosophy: Not for profit, not for charity,
but for service.
Awarded annually, the W.C. (Wally) Ohlfs scholarship is available to graduating
seniors who will be enrolling full-time in an accredited college or university.
Eligible applicants must have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher and
be members in good standing of the credit union with their own accounts.

Continuing Education Scholarship
Red Canoe Credit Union is proud of our WC (Wally) Ohfls scholarship winners, and
want to encourage them to continue their education. We’ve developed a new continuing
education scholarship essay contest to do just that. All prior year recipients of
the WC (Wally) Ohlfs scholarship have an opportunity to access additional scholarship
dollars by entering the new contest. This program was designed to further assist
our members achieve their educational goals through scholarships.
The continuing education scholarship application is simply an essay contest. Winners
will receive a $500 continuing education scholarship annually for the next three
years. We want to know more about winner’s experiences in college and their future
dreams, so winners of the $500 continuing education scholarship will be asked to
submit a follow up essay each year to receive annual funding.
